Chapter 61-New Years

Apparently this never sent last week sorry.
Was geht ab yall? Hope y'all had a good new year! We went to bed at 10:30 hehe. We had planned to get up at 11:55 and watch the fireworks and celebrate, but the alarm went off and Elder Mitchell was the only one that got up haha. The other 3 of us just kept sleeping. But the fireworks right at 12:00 woke me cause there were a ton right outside of our house.

I'm super excited for 2020 though and it's been a pretty good year so far.

This week the work finally started picking up a little more again since peopel are back from vacation etc. Daniel is doing really well and we are planning for sometime in February for his baptism. We're still working with our other friends and not a lot of change, but you know I realized something. Conversion doesn't normally happen overnight. I think people can get answers very quickly and maybe even recognize that God is talking with them. That is the case with most of the poeple that we are teaching. They all have a pretty good knowledge of the gospel and realize that the best thing they can do in their lives is to follow Jesus Christ. They have read portions of the Book of Mormon and prayed about it. Many of them have recieved answers in their own personal ways that it really is the word of God and the restored church of Jesus Christ really is on the earth. However, just because someone has knowledge and has received confirmation of those truths, does not mean that they are fully committed. Comittment is really 100% from oneself, and it's something that I can't control. They will figure things out in their own time, I am just here as God's servant and am here to accomplish his will. In this new year I'm trying to act more like Christ would. I ask myself the question often "What does the Lord want me to do right now?" or more cheesy "What would Jesus do?" I testify that if we all were to ask that a little more often, we could be not only an instrument in the Lord's hands, but a whole symphony.

We had zone conference this week and I love having interviews with President Leimer. He is so inspiring and cool. We talked a lot about the new Year and just having a fresh start. Not dwelling on problems of the past, but having an eye single to the glory of God and working our hardest to accomplish his work. My Mom always says "The score is 0-0." Fresh Slate.

We had some pretty cool miracles this week.

So on Saturday we were headed over to Rosti's mothers house because she invited us over for dinner. We were on the U-Bahn and we started talking to these 2 girls that we speaking in English. We talked to them for a while and they were really cool and we ended up inviting them to our German class becasue they said they were still learning. But in the process of getting out a card and my pen, I guess my phone fell out of my pocket onto the bench. I didn't notice. So we get off at our station and I noticed that my phone wasn't in my pocket and I panically check all my pockets. It wasn't there. The u-bahn doors had already closed and I was trying to look through the window to see if it was sitting there. I didn't see it but Elder Mitchell was pretty sure that he did. But it was already leaving the station and so we were like what the heck do we do. We had an appointment and it's impossible to catch up to the U-bahn. But we decided to take the next U-bahn to the next station (b/c it was luckily the last station) and we thought maybe it would flip around and we could catch it the other direction. But turns out there were different tracks in the end station and we had no idea which one was the right one. So we are looking around trying to figure it out. Then out of nowhere a man walks up to us and says "Ich habe euer Handy gefunden." Gives us the phone and we were so shocked we could hardly sayy thank you before he was gone. We have no idea how he knew that it was us and who he was -- but there are angels among us :) even if they are just a normal german dude.

So then we go to Rosti's Mom's and she cooked some awesome Ukranian Bortsch and some other stuff. She was also really curious about the church and so we had an awesome lesson/conversation about the restoration. On the way home on the U-Bahn there was this girl sitting next to us and just totally out of the blue she said in english "Can I ask you a question? Why do you love Jesus so much?" and pointed to my phone homescreen (I have a picture of Jesus as my background)

We had a really awesome conversation with her about why Christ is so important and we invited her to church and to our german class. She was just so nice.

Elder Mitchell and I have also made a goal with the new year to speak as much German as possible. We went a few days with next to 0 english. We have broken into english a bit more lately, but still I'd say around 85% german. It's been kinda draining, but it's really helped my german already and I can see that the Lord is blessing and consecrating our efforts.

We're excited to keep working with our friends and hopefully find some new ones. :)

- Love yall
