I want to talk about the power of prayer and the importance of following the spirit. Throughout my mission I have tried to involve the Lord in my decisions and ask him in prayer what he wants from me. It's so important to ask questions. With an actual question mark. Not just "Father please help me to know what I need to do" I think that is a good start, but even better is "Father what do you want me to do? How can I do that?" Then listen for the spirit -- after enough practice you can find how the spirit speaks to you and how to get answers from our father in heaven.
A few short miracles -- every morning when we got out street contacting we pray about what book of Mormon to bring with us that day. In Berlin it is super cool because it is so international, but with so many languages it is important to know what to bring with us. Throughout my time hear I have had so many miracles with this prayer.
We have brought French, Bulgarian, Arabic, Spanish, Hindi, Russian, and so many others and somehow met people from all those different places that were prepared to hear the gospel.
I want to talk about one experience in my last area Werdau specifically. Werdau is a city of about 35,000. One Sunday my companion and I had literally nothing to do and so we went dooring for about 6 hours. (Street contacting on Sundays in Werdau is impossible because no one is outside) So we go for like 6 hours with 0 success. We head back home at around 8 to go eat dinner. We get right outside the apartment door and Elder Orton says "Elder, I feel like we need to go back to innenstadt (innercity)" and so we walk the 25 minutes back... there is of course still like no one on the street but we were determined to follow the spirit. We see some people standing outside a little shop and so we go over and talk to them. The conversation quickly switches to English since they couldn't speak German and we come to find out that they are from Slovakia... Well, that morning when we had prayed I brought a Slovakian Book of Mormon. (Also keep in mind I have been here for 14 months now and I have only met 1 Slovakian). We talk about the Book of Mormon and he is astounded and we meet with him a few times and he came to church. In the end (this is another lesson) he ended up moving back to Slovakia and we lost contact with him. But people still have their agency and we had an amazing miracle find -- but it people still ahve the choice to accept the gospel or not. We just have to do our part and follow the spirit and the will of the Lord.
