Chapter 3-Trapped in a Book

Hello all, this week was busy as always. Here is the rundown.

Early in the week we had some awesome lessons with our friends/investigators. On Tuesday we had a suppppeerr long lesson with Sochima about eternal marriage and families, and about the priesthood. It was about 2 hours long haha. With the priesthood he was a little confused at first about being ordained with the priesthood after baptism -- he thought it would mean that he would become a preist and have to work in the church and be the leader of a congregation essentially. We explained it a little better, and he thought it was so cool that every worthy man can hold the priesthood and exercise God's power on the earth. Then we dove into eternal marriage and eternal families. He just couldn't get over the fact that it was possible. Normally in marraige ceremonies, the pastor or one conducting the ceremony will say "till death do us part" -- but what is so amazing is that we can be with our families for all eternity! We read Matthew 16:19 about the sealing power and he realized how amazing it is and got really excited! The next lesson we taught him more about the Temple and about doing baptisms and ordinances for the dead and he got even more excited and really wants to the go the Temple after his baptism. We finally officially set a date (after some coordination issues) for this Saturday! We are very excited for him and will continue to teach him afterwards to help him prepare for the Temple! We also conducted a mock baptismal interview with him, and at the end we asked him to share his testimony with us. He talked about committing his life to Christ and about becoming more like him, and how the Book of Mormon is the word of God and that it helps him become a better person and he is super excited to follow Christ's example and be baptized. It was one of the most powerful testimonies I have ever heard and it is just amazing to see people grow and come closer to our savior Jesus Christ.

We had our normal service again with Bernt (the one with the massive "garden" which was super fun again😆). On Wednesday we had our normal distrikt meeting and then we had a street display! We set up a table in the plaza and put out a ton of Book of Mormons in different languages and we had all the missionaries on our district come and talk to people for a few hours. It was super fun and we made a lot of great contacts. One in particaular is very promising -- his name is Mohammad. He speaks only a little bit of German, but his english is super great! We had a meeting with him this week and talked about prayer and about the book of mormon (which we gave to him in Fharsi). It was a fun time trying to navigate through the Fharsi Book of Mormon with him because 1) They read from right to left, and 2) the numbers are completely different too haha. But he was super kind and sweet and loved reading from the Book of Mormon and learning about prayer. At the end of the meeting he thanked us as said "I would love it if we could be friends. We can do everything together!" it was so awesome and as many Sister missionaries say "He was so cute." (not like atractive cute, but like sweet and nice kind of cute haha😂) We are super exciting to keep meeting with him!

The rest of the week was pretty average, but we spent a lot of time working on our huge Book of Mormon/Bible street display project. A few weeks ago (before I got here) the members and Elders made a huge Book (about a meter tall) made of wood to be used in street displays. We painted one side red for The Bible, and the other side Blue for the Book of Mormon. There is also corkboard on the inside and we so made a awesome looking display talking about the restoration and about how the Book of Mormon and the Bible support each other. It took a lot of work and organziation (which is not my strong suite😑 haha) -- really it was mostly just throwing up pictures and scriptures over and over again until we had better ideas and it started actually looking good. For one of the pictures of Joseph Smith, we couldn't find any small ones in the building, but we had the "Teachings of the Prophet Joseph Smith" manual/book, and so we made an executive decision to just cut the picture out of the front cover. 😅😂😂Then we took pictures with our faces in the hole.😁 (See below)

There are some pictures of the "final" product. I say "final" because we didn't trust ourselves to be artzy enough to do the lettering for the Book of Mormon and the Bible, so we are going to have a member do it this week and then we are going to use it on Wednesday for another steet display. I'll send pics next week of the display once we do it.  It took a lot more time to paint and prepare the inside than we had planned, but I think it is going to be super worth it b/c we have 3-4 more street displays next transfer planned and we are probably going to buy christmas lights to go around it once it gets closer.

Other than that, our other friends are progressing super well and we are excited to teach them and help them grow closer to chirst each week.

Love you all, and would love to hear from you!
