Hello Hello. We are back with another crazy week in Werdau. (Also got transfer calls, I'm staying in Werdau and Elder Cheung is leaving and going to Halle.)
We were in Leipzig on exchange and I was working with Elder Crane for the day. Elder Crane is a super awesome hardworking missionary and I learned a lot with him in the short time that I was with him. The most important thing that I learned is don't be afraid to shoot high and have high expectations. Let me tell a little story.
So we were going street contacting in the morning, and after have a few nice conversations that didn't really go anywhere, we stopped a guy named Dennis. Dennis is kinda rough around the edges and has a dope rainbow foe-hawk -- but everyone needs Jesus and we don't judge or discriminate and so we talked to him for a while and talked about faith in God and how it can help us in life. He was really interested in what we had to say, and so Elder Crane asked him if he had time to meet sometime, and he said ya. Elder Crane then asked him if he had time later that afternoon, and so we made an appointment out for 4 hours later. Normally, when we find someone with interest we just get their phone number and text them to set up a time to meet. But I would say maybe 1/5 of those contacts actually respond and set up an appointment. What I learned is to just go for the best thing possible: same day appointment.
So fastforward 4 hours. Dennis comes to the church to meet us AND he brings 2 of his friends with him! We have an awesome first lesson with all 3 of them, with Dennis showing the most interest, but in the end all 3 took Book of Mormons and said they would read. But on the way out of the lesson, we decided to give them a tour around the church and then we showed them the room with the baptismal font. We talked for a moment about baptism and what it is and means. Dennis then asked if adults can still be baptized, he went on to explain that he really wants to be baptized and be part of a church. He then started asking about how to set up an appointment to be baptized. We told him that we could definitely help him to do that, but first he needed to be prepared to be ready to be baptized and we told him that we would keep meeting with him and help him prepare and meet a few standards before that time. He was really excited!
Doesn't happen everyday for sure. But it was a really really cool experience and I hope to see more like that on my mission.
Our friends in Werdau are doing good, progress is being made but nothing huge yet to report on.
On a fun note. I ate SOOOO many new things this week. Elder Cheung and I went to this chinese buffet and here is the list of all the things I ate. Alpaca, Kangaroo, Crocodile, Zebra, lamb, octopus, frog, salmon, shark, halibut, sushi (lots of kinda idk), shrimp, torpedo shrimp, dragon eye fruit, and this red spikey ball fruit.
I also ate this stuff called Hackenpeter -- it is raw ground beef that goes on a roll with some onions.... but like 100% raw... here are many pics
