Chapter 8: Food Pics

Hallo Zusammen! I hope that you are all doing well!

This week was great as always. I've been slacking off on my journal writing (yikes😒😑), so this week I kinda forgot a lot of the stuff we did, but here are some cool things.

We had an exchange with the Erfurt Elders on Monday and Tuesday and then district meeting in Erfurt on Wednesday, which ate up a lot of time. But that wasn't the only thing which got eaten 😉😉. We had some super good food. Also I just cooked a little more at home this week and so there are lots of food pics this week. lol

On Thursday we had a really cool little miracle. The persian family we met a few weeks ago, hasn't really contacted us back for a while. Anyway, on Thursday we were doing some language study at the church, but then out of the blue we hear someone coming in through the door. We assumed it was our branch president because he comes in pretty often after work/school and does a few things. Anyway, to our much suprise it was the family! They came and we talked to them for a little while. The wife said she had read quite a bit out of the Book of Mormon, but then she talked to her leader at her church -- his name is Rocko -- and he told her that she was not allowed to read it. We read with her out of the Book of Mormon, and gave her some chapters that talk about Jesus Christ, b/c she loves anything to do with Christ. The language barrier is pretty hard, b/c neither of them speak very great german and we didn't have a translator. It was just amazing that they just walked in while we were there and all the doors were unlocked. The leader of one the of congregations, his name is Rocko, is very interesting. He is very polite and nice-- but he also hates the church and is considered the "local basher". Anyway, it is frustrating b/c it feels like they aren't going to give the Book of Mormon a chance just because of Rocko... We'll see though.

We met with Liu again this week to talk about getting the priesthood and his responsibilities as a priest! We met with him on Thursday and then on Sunday our Elder's Quorum President ordained him in chinese again! It was a really cool experience yet again. We have also been looking at our less active members and trying to find ways to help them, and there are quite a few chinese members and so we are going to try work more with them.

Sochima got a calling this week as the secretary in the Elder's Quorum and we are excited to see him continue to grow! He is also helping us teach Frank -- his friend that he brought to church.

We taught Frank the first lesson again and he really felt the spirit and was going to go home and pray about the Book of Mormon. He is really excited about the gospel and wants to learn more. He is really busy this week because of exams for school, but after that we are going to teach him a lot.

Also, another crazy "coincidence" -- but those don't actually exsist, they are just a cover up for the word miracle -- was this week we had Tiburce text us back! He has been sick for a long time and really struggling with things and hasn't really got back to us. He has been taught basically everything, and already lives the gospel -- but he had concerns about being rebaptized. I think we pushed a little too hard b/c he didn't really respond to us for a long time. But we started loving him more, and dropped off notes and cards in his mailbox and just tried to be his friend more than just trying to teach him. After a few weeks of this he finally responded to us on Sunday. Then today (Monday), we saw him in the Bank!! It was definitely no coincidence and he was really happy to see us. Unfortunately he is leaving town for the holidays and won't be back till January, so I hope that I stay in Jena to be able to see him again!

It is just amazing how much of the work the Lord does. All we have to do is show up, and get moving and be in the right place at the right time. It really is amazing to be here and to have the chance to help and serve so many people.

Love you all!
