Chapter 2-The Garden

Hello all, I'm back with Chapter 2 (I am going to call every new group email in Germany a Chapter; since I didn't do it last week the title of last week is Chapter 1: The Beginning)

First, I want to tell the story of Tuesday. We have an eating appointment with a man named Bernd every Tuesday afternoon, we do service for him in his garden and then he feeds us lunch. So when I say garden you might be thinking a nice little garden box with vegtables and we just pull weeds for a little bit. Haha you couldn't be more wrong. This place is crazy. (see pictures attached below) So he has this very nice lawn with big trees and we ate a lovely lunch at this table outside and you would think this place is normal and then you go towards the back of the lawn and you find (Pic 1). So he makes these walls out of sticks to keep the dirt and bank at bay. The dirt isn't actually all dirt. Since 1970 this man has taken all the leaves that fall off his trees and piles them behind this wall and then packs dirt on top of them. So it is just massive. But since the wall is made of sticks and wood it needs constant maintainace and so we were putting metal rebar in one section of this wall and hammering it down and then reinforcing it with more sticks. It was SUPER fun, just pretty weird. So we raked up leaves for a while added them to his pile, and then helped rebuild the wall and then had some delicious german food outside. Also his view from the top of his wall thing is amazing. But it was super fun and we go there every week and so I am very excited to go back tomorrow.

I just want to say the food in Germany is flippin awesome. Like it is crazy good. We have this dope curry-wurst stand right by our appartment and apprently it is the best in the mission (which I would 100% believe cause it so good). Then we got the classic Döner-ladens (its a Turkish food). We went to one this week and I ordered in Turkish and had a nice conversation with the man in Turkish (but sometimes I wouldn't understand the Turkish so I would switch to German lol). This week we had an Austausch (companion exchange) and so I went with Elder Mitchell to Erfurt which is like a 30 min train ride away for Wednesday and Thursday). When we were finding on the street in Erfurt I tried really hard to find Turkish people and I finally did! I switched over to Turkish and talked to him for a little bit and I would throw in german words when I didn't know the Turkish words. I gave him a Turkish book of mormon and we exchanged contact info, but I don't really know if anything really happened because it was in Erfurt. It was still cool.

Saturaday was pretty cool too. We got a less active member here to lead a workout at the church, we had a few members a few less actives and one of our investigators there. We worked out super hard and now all 3 of us are super sore haha oh well. It was a great oppoutunity for our investigator to make some friends and to strengthen the ward. After the workout we all went to lunch at this lovely little cafe in Jena and they had some of the best food I have ever had.

It was also Elder Mitchell's birthday this week! We haven't had time to make a cake yet, but we are going to later tonght! So I'll send pics next week

So we just have a branch in Jena there were about 35 or so people there on sunday, but we had ALL 3 of our friends/investigators there which was super awesome. 2 of them only speak english though, so we took turns translating (my trainer Elder Kuttler did the most though). After sacrament meeting we had a investigator class and we had the Branch President come in and we taught the law of tithing and both of them (the 3rd investigator had to leave aftere sacrament) excepted to live it after they are baptized!

Our 3 investigators are all making great progress and we will definitily be putting 1 on baptismal date this week. The other two are not too far behind. It is really exciting to help people come closer to Christ step by step.

I think I am finally adjusted to the time difference which is nice.  My german is going ok -- I can understand natives better and better each day, especially people that I see more often it is easier to understand them now.

Love you all! I hope you are all doing well!
